2025 MEC Baseball Championship Preview

Updated: May 7

May 7–11 | GoMart Ballpark – Charleston, WV

The Mountain East’s best are descending on Charleston, and with power arms, veteran bats, and two first-time title hopefuls earning top seeds, the 2025 MEC Tournament is shaping up to be must-watch baseball.

No. 1 North seed Point Park — in its first-ever MEC season — enters as the top overall seed with the league’s best record. They’ve got star power, the conference’s Coach of the Year, and a Player of the Year who can beat you in the box and on the basepaths. But three time defending champ Charleston, Frostburg State, and Concord aren’t exactly rolling out the red carpet.

Let’s break down the field, the stars, and what to watch as the MEC plays for its automatic NCAA bid at GoMart Ballpark this week.

⚔️ Opening Round Matchups

🧨 G1: #1N Point Park vs. #3S Concord | Wed, May 7 – 3:30 PM

The Pioneers enter on an eight-game MEC win streak, with Jared Campbell (.372 AVG, 14 HR, 50 RBI) leading the way as MEC Player of the Year. They’re stacked: 4 First-Team selections, top-end starting arms, and dominant closer Harold Boyce. But Concord brings postseason pedigree — and First-Teamers Matt DisAnti (1B) and MJ Hunter (Utility) pack punch.

🧨 G2: #1S Charleston vs. #3N Fairmont State | Wed, May 7 – 7 PM

Charleston has depth, experience, and First-Team catcher Evan Ulrich behind the plate. Fairmont’s Quintin Reep (OF) and Jake Robinson (SP) earned top honors, while Quintin Smith (2B) adds contact and defense. Keep an eye on Zac Bayor, Glenville State DH and one of the most consistent bats in the region.

🧨 G3: #2S West Virginia State vs. #2N Frostburg State | Thurs, May 8 – 10 AM

This is a can’t-miss pitching duel. Frostburg’s Patrick Bauer (9-1, 1.82 ERA, 85 Ks) is the MEC Pitcher of the Year and simply dominant — he’s allowed more than two earned runs just once all year. He’ll square off with WVSU’s all-conference shortstop Kyle Waters and outfielder Nathan Paulsen, who give the Yellow Jackets legit pop.

  • MJ Hunter (Utility): Versatile weapon with pop

  • Jake Robinson (SP): 1st-Team arm, can quiet any offense

🧠 Final Thoughts

Point Park is the new kid on the block, but they’re rolling into Charleston like a team that’s been here before. Frostburg’s rotation can win multiple games. Charleston has balance. And Concord may be the bracket buster nobody sees coming. This tournament always delivers high drama. And with a loaded All-MEC field — 15 of 16 First-Teamers in action — expect four days of electric baseball in West Virginia’s capital.
