GAC Regular Season Finale Preview

The final weekend of GAC baseball isn’t just a series of games—it’s a high-octane game of musical chairs played at 95 miles per hour, and the music is about to cut. From the heavyweight title fight in Monticello to the absolute bloodbath on the bubble in Weatherford and Arkadelphia, we are staring down the barrel of 72 hours of pure, unadulterated chaos.

The Weevils are trying to slam the door on a title, the Wonder Boys are looking for a window to crawl through, and at the bottom of the bracket? It’s a literal "winner-stays-on" street fight. Forget the record books; throw out the "what-ifs." If you aren't sweating the scoreboard this weekend, you aren't paying attention. Five teams have clinched spots to the GAC Tournament, which will be split at two sites (Majestic Park in Hot Springs, AR and David Allen Ballpark in Enid, OK)

There's a realm where FIVE teams could be tied at 15-18 for two spots. Per the GAC Conference Tiebreakers:

SECTION 2: TIE-BREAK2.1 ... Two-Way Ties: In the event of a two-way tie, the seed positions are determined by:

a) Record against each other;

b)  Record against common opponents in descending order starting with the highest seeded team;

c) If the above formula is not conclusive, the Commissioner shall conduct a coin flip to determine the highest seeded team(s).

Meaning, the above table would go to record vs the top teams. Let's assume UAM is the 1 seed. In this event, Henderson State would advance since they have a win against them whereas all the other teams do not. So then, we'd go to the next tiebreaker (assuming Arkansas Tech is the 2 seed). SWOSU and Oklahoma Baptist are tied there at 1-2. So then, it goes to the third tiebreaker (Harding) and SWOSU and Oklahoma Baptist are tied there too.

We go to the fourth seed (assuming Southeastern Oklahoma State). Both SWOSU and Oklahoma Baptist went 2-1 too! Next would be (assuming Southern Arkansas, the 5th seed), both SWOSU and Oklahoma Baptist went 1-2. Now we go to the sixth seed (assuming Ouachita Baptist) SWOSU went 3-0 while Oklahoma Baptist went 1-2, meaning the 8th spot would go to SWOSU. If Henderson State was in the spot, the tiebreaker would go to Oklahoma Baptist since they went 2-1 vs SWOSU's 1-2 record.

Just two tiebreakers away from a potential coin flip to decide the final spot in the standings.
