NE10 Baseball Tournament Preview

The NE10 Championship steps into a new era this spring with a revamped, high-stakes hybrid format. The six-team bracket kicks off with single-elimination chaos on Tuesday, May 5th, at the higher seed host sites. The defending tournament champion, #6 Pace, travels to face #3 Saint Anselm for a 2:30 p.m. first pitch, while #5 Saint Michael's visits #4 Adelphi at 2 PM. (All times Eastern)

Survive Tuesday, and the format shifts. The two first-round winners will pack their bags for Manchester, joining the regular season champion, #1 SNHU, and #2 Bentley for a traditional double-elimination crucible hosted by the Penmen. The weekend action begins Thursday, May 7th, with Game 3 pitting the Adelphi/Saint Michael's winner against SNHU, while the Pace/Saint Anselm victor draws Bentley in Game 4. From there, it's a grueling grind through Saturday, May 9th, navigating the losers' bracket (Games 5 and 7) and the winners' bracket (Game 6) toward the championship series (Game 8 and an if-necessary Game 9). The winner gets an automatic bid into the NCAA East Regional. Here's the full bracket:

The Heavyweight: SNHU's Juggernaut

It’s impossible to discuss the NE10 without the conversation starting and ending with the top-seeded Southern New Hampshire Penmen. They aren't just hosting the weekend; they are the overwhelming favorites. The Penmen lineup is an absolute gauntlet, spearheaded by the terrifying duo of Dakota Britt and Jake Pisano, who are hitting .402 and .397, respectively. The true x-factor is Casey Cumiskey, who has casually launched 17 home runs and driven in 58 with an OPS of 1.190. When you pair an offense that simply doesn't slump with a pitching staff anchored by Jack Davis (9-3, 2.38 ERA in 21 appearances) and Zak Whitney (6-1, 3.59 ERA), you have a complete machine. Opponents will have to play practically perfect baseball to survive nine innings against them.

The Challengers: Bentley's Bats and Adelphi's Arms

If anyone has the firepower to match SNHU blow-for-blow, it’s the two-seed Bentley Falcons. Their lineup is relentlessly powerful. Nick Pappas (.407, 18 2B 10 HR) and Jared Berardino (.369, 15 HR) are massive threats, but Stan DeMartinis III is the true game-wrecker, leading the charge with a staggering 20 home runs on the year. DeMartinis III last weekend broke both the single-season and all-time HR recrod set funnily enough by head coach Mike Hill. They can change the score with one swing and have rotation experience. Pat Heber (7-0, 4.35 ERA in 68.1 innings), Sam Belliveau (8-2, 4.69 ERA in 63.1 innings), and Zach Eigenbrod (7-2, 4.86 ERA in 53.2 innings) have a combined record of 22-2 on the mound, providing a plethora of quality pitching.

Meanwhile, Adelphi presents the exact opposite profile as the four-seed. If you want to neutralize a hot offense in May, you need swing-and-miss stuff, and the Panthers have it in spades. John Carver is electric, boasting a 2.98 ERA with a massive 84 strikeouts in just 51.1 innings. Paired with Dylan Beirne (3.44 ERA over 52.1 innings), Adelphi is the terrifying team no one wants to face in a short series. If Johnny Catuosco (.417, 70 hits) can manufacture a few early runs, those front-line arms can completely suffocate a game.

The Bracket Busters: The Defending Champs & The Spoilers

Never count out the defending champs. Pace might be entering as the #6 seed on a tough road trip, but they have the ultimate equalizer in ace Eric Santaella. Carrying a 2.37 ERA across 57 innings with four complete games, Santaella is built for Tuesday's do-or-die scenario. He will be backed by Anthony Depetro (.388, 14 doubles) at the dish.

To advance, Pace will have to go through #3 Saint Anselm, a team possessing perhaps the most dangerous individual weapon in the tournament. George Slauson is putting together a mammoth season for the Hawks, hitting .442 with 12 bombs and 68 RBIs. With Coleson Kaluza setting the table (64 runs, 25 stolen bases), Saint Anselm can outscore anyone.

Rounding out the field, #5 Saint Michael's heads to Adelphi looking to play spoiler. Outfielder Sam Cavossa sets the tone with a .368 average and 63 hits, while Keegan Burke (4.83 ERA, 54 innings) will be tasked with keeping the Panthers' bats quiet, providing the spark the Purple Knights need to string together an upset and crash the party in Manchester.
