Gulf South Conference Highlights


Lee University Dominates at Home


Lee University Baseball opened the weekend with a doubleheader sweep at Emmanuel (Ga.) on Friday. Lee won both games (including a run-rule 12-1 victory in the second game), giving the Flames a strong start to the 2026 campaign. The Flames’ 2-0 start gives Lee early momentum as they shift focus toward GSC opening series later this month.


West Florida Sweeps Florida Southern


University of West Florida Baseball posted a weekend sweep over Florida Southern in a key non-conference series: 5–3 and 3–2 on Jan. 30, followed by a 13–8 victory on Feb. 1. UWF’s offense peaked in the finale with 13 runs and multiple power hits, a statement win early in the Argos’ season. Over the three games vs Florida Southern, UWF hitters combined for 21 runs and 33 hits, including four home runs - three from Zack Stokes - and several multi-hit outings. West Florida jumped to 11 on the latest rankings.



Montevallo Edges Take Two-of-Three From Hillsdale


The University of Montevallo baseball squad picked up a 9–7 win over Hillsdale in a high-scoring affair on Friday, showcasing resilience and timely hitting throughout. In Sunday’s series finale, the Falcons picked up an 18-14 win, as the two sides combined for 32 runs on just 28 hits. Jack Fitzgerald was 7-for-12 on the weekend with two doubles, one triple, three home runs and 11 RBI for Montevallo.

Top-Ranked Tampa Begins Title Defense


No. 1 Tampa swept a two-game series with Georgia College, winning 15-1 in the opener, followed by a 3-1 win in game two. The Spartans had 21 hits across the two games while the pitching staff racked up 16 strikeouts across 18 innings of work, including a six-strikeout performance from John Luke Glanton in just four innings on the mound.


Barry Baseball Has Perfect Weekend 


Barry opened the season with a 4-2 win over Cal State East Bay, paced by strong pitching from Tyler Venegas (4 IP, 6 K, 0 ER) earning the win and a save from John Perozzi. In game two, the Bucs battled in a 13-12 thriller against Wingate. Barry collected 16 hits to Wingate’s 12, including five home runs, showcasing early offensive depth. Barry closed out the weekend with a 16-4 rout of Valdosta State, jumping ahead with timely hitting and run support.



Florida Tech Scores in Bunches Against Spring Hill


Florida Tech dominated Spring Hill 8-2 in the season opener with balanced hitting and solid pitching to open the road slate. The Panthers continued their offensive fire in a Saturday twin bill with 10-9 and 11-9 wins over Spring Hill in a doubleheader, rallying on multiple occasions to steal the wins.

Miles College Rolls Through Early Games


The Miles College baseball team put together an impressive early start, going 3–0 overall non-conference play over the weekend. Miles picked up two wins over Philander Smith and another over Stillman, powered by balanced offense and aggressive baserunning. The Golden 

Bears swiped a total of 18 bases across the three games as Myles Wessels went a perfect 5-for-5 in stolen base attempts.


Offense Opens 2026 on Fire for Edward Waters


Edward Waters swept a three-game series with Trinity Baptist College to start the 2026 season, scoring a total of 42 runs in over the weekend. A total of 10 different Tigers registered multiple hits in the series, including a 7-for-13 weekend for Daniel Donaldson Fountain who had five doubles, five RBI and four stolen bases to fill up the box score.
