Wild Weekend in Wingate + Other Notables: Southeast Region Weekly Recap (2/2 - 2/8)

Wingate vs. #15 Millersville (2-1)

A week after going 2-1 on its Florida trip, the Wingate Bulldogs had another impressive weekend taking two of three from #15 Millersville, including a wild 17-16 win in 11 innings in the rubber match. The Bulldogs put up 11 runs in the bottom of the 1st and took Game 1 15-10 before falling 7-3 in Game 2. Tanner McCammon was the star in the series opener, going 5-5 with 2 doubles, a homer, and 4 RBI. McCammon also added a homer in Game 3. Sean Sullivan chipped in with five hits on the weekend, including a double, triple, and homer and 6 RBI. Chad Harvey moved to 2-0 after another strong start in Game 1, going 5 complete with 7 strikeouts and allowing just two earned runs. Parker Jensen made his collegiate debut in the chaotic series finale and went two scoreless with 3 punchies to set the stage for Gavin Groppusso’s walkoff single in the 11th inning.



#13 Lenoir-Rhyne vs. Columbus State (3-0)

After weather cancelled its opening weekend, Lenoir-Rhyne opened its season with a dominating sweep over Columbus State, outscoring the Cougars 46-20 on the weekend. As a team, the Bears tallied 41 hits, including 13 of the extra-base variety. Matt Procopio led the way offensively, going 8-14 with 3 jacks and 10 RBI. Lleyton Lackey was 6-13 with 7 RBI, while Mackenzie Wainwright picked up where he left off 2025, going 5-11 with a homer and 5 RBI. The Bears open up SAC play at home this weekend against the aforementioned Wingate Bulldogs in what should be an exciting series with a lot of offense.


RV North Georgia vs. RV Mississippi College (3-0)

After dropping its midweek game to Young Harris, North Georgia bounced back with an impressive sweep of Mississippi College, outscoring the Choctaws 37-10 on the weekend. Schley Gordy (5-12, 7 RBI) and Kyle Robitzsch (4-8, double, home run, 5 RBI) had solid weekends at the plate for the Nighthawks, while Matthew Heard turned in his second-straight quality start, going 7 innings of 3-run ball to pick up the win in the series opener. Andrew Duval got the win in Game 3 with 6 shutout innings, allowing just 2 hits and punching out 4. UNG will close its season series against Young Harris on Tuesday, before heading to Georgia College to open up PBC play this weekend in head coach Nolan Belcher’s return to Milledgeville. 



Lander vs. RV Mount Olive (2-1)

The Lander Bearcats started the week with a 7-2 win over Newberry before dropping the series opener to Mount Olive 9-3. Lander bounced back with a doubleheader sweep on Saturday to take the series, picking up a 2-1 win behind Jake Larson’s 7 inning CG in Game 2, while the offense exploded in the rubber match on the way to a 17-13 win to clinch the series. Oliver Zohn had a productive weekend at the plate, going 5-8, with a double, triple, home run, and 7 RBI.


#22 Belmont Abbey vs. Emmanuel (3-0)

2025 Conference Carolinas Tourney champs, Belmont Abbey, got off to a hot start in league play with a three-game sweep of Emmanuel. Jack Boyles had a big weekend, going 7-13 with 5 RBI. Spencer Cipro cruised through 6 shutout innings on just 70 pitches in Game 2 to pick up the win, allowing just 3 hits and striking out 3. The Crusaders bullpenned it in the series finale, with Ethan Yarbrough and Isaac Williams combining for 4.2 scoreless innings and 3 strikeouts. 


#25 Young Harris @ #20 Florida Southern (2-1)

After a dominating 16-5 win over RV North Georgia in midweek action, Young Harris headed down to Florida Southern for a big-time non-conference series. After the Mocs took the series opener, the Mountain Lions responded with a doubleheader sweep on Saturday to take an impressive series victory. Cole Molina was electric in the Game 2 win, going CG with just three runs allowed, no walks, and 9 punchies. In Game 3, the Mountain Lions jumped out to a 13-6 lead after 5 innings and then held off a late Florida Southern rally as Trey Griffin came in to shut the game down and earn the save, going five up five down with 2 Ks to clinch the series with a 13-11 win.



Quick Hitters

  • How about Anderson and its 6-0 start? The Trojans have six qualified hitters batting .400 or above, led by Braeden Harrison’s .684, 2 HR, 17 RBI start. Gray Wells (.522), Myles Denton (.417), and Brooks Mauro (.409) join Harrison in the .400 club while also tallying two homers apiece. Ben Bullard (.467) and Dom Bello (.417) haven’t homered yet, but have combined to drive in 15 runs.


  • Another SAC school that has jumped out to a perfect start is 5-0 Carson-Newman. Logan Floyd is pacing the Eagles offense, hitting .600 with 3 doubles, a homer, and 7 RBI through the first two weeks. Kolton Casson, a D2 Baseball 2nd-Team All-American as a freshman last year, hasn’t missed a beat as he moved to 2-0 in the weekend sweep of Cedarville. Casson’s ERA sits at 1.13 and has allowed just 3 hits in 8 innings, while posting 11 Ks to just 1 walk.
