The Complete Package: Why Charlie Bussey III Edges Out Dagen Brewer for D2 Baseball Player of the Year
In any normal season, Pittsburg State’s Dagen Brewer wins Player of the Year after a historic 24-double, 26-homer campaign. But Francis Marion’s Charlie Bussey III broke the matrix.
Bussey combined 21 homers and 22 doubles with 40 stolen bases, becoming the first modern D2 player to log a 20/20/40 season. Factoring in his .604 OBP and superior defense, Bussey generated 7.0 WAR to Brewer's 5.8. Brewer was a legendary slugger, but Bussey is our undisputed complete player.
