Regis Fall Report: Small on Experience, Big on Potential

Updated: Jan 20

The Regis baseball program reached unprecedented heights in 2025, carving out a season that will be remembered in the record books for years to come. Under the leadership of Head Coach Pat Jolley, who has steered the program to a 67-40-1 record over his first two seasons, the Rangers posted a 35-16 overall mark. This performance secured the program record for the most wins in a single season and marked the third consecutive year the team surpassed the 30-win plateau.

Within the RMAC, Regis was a force, finishing second in the conference with a 24-6 record and earning a trip to the RMAC Tournament. This success follows a 2024 campaign that saw the Rangers reach the NCAA Regionals for just the third time in school history. However, as the page turns to 2026, Jolley faces a significant roster overhaul, with the team returning only 23.9% of its offensive plate appearances and 25.2% of its pitching innings. With 41 of the 51 players on the roster currently listed as freshmen or sophomores, the theme in Denver is undeniably one of youthful potential over seasoned experience.

The Offense: Passing the Torch

The Rangers' lineup will feature several new faces as they look to replace a high-powered veteran core. Leading the returning group is Jack Moulin, a versatile Redshirt Junior who spent time at first base and the corner outfield spots last season. In 158 ABs, Moulin hit .348 with 13 doubles/12 HR and 57 RBI, providing a steady presence in the middle of the order. Another critical piece of the puzzle is sophomore Ethan Wood, a big-bodied left-handed hitter who flashed immense power during a standout freshman campaign. Wood proved to be an efficient run producer, as he hit .402 in 97 ABs with 11 doubles/8 HR and 32 RBI.

While much of the production from last year has moved on, the incoming class brings impressive credentials. Parker Burt, a Redshirt Sophomore transfer from North Lake JC, arrives after hitting .303 with 15 doubles and 48 RBI. Perhaps more importantly, Burt earned an NJCAA Gold Glove behind the dish, a vital asset for a young pitching staff. Joining him in the grass is Park Romney, a Redshirt Junior transfer from the University of the Pacific. Romney brings an athletic profile with significant strength at contact, having previously hit .299 at San Joaquin Delta.

The Pitching Staff: Finding the New Ace

The mound will see a mix of veteran stability and fresh arms as the Rangers look to replicate their defensive efficiency. The rotation is expected to be anchored by senior left-hander Ryan Garcia, who provided a reliable arm during the 2025 conference run. Garcia posted a 7-2 record with a 6.83 ERA in 54.0 IP, and notably, he led the RMAC in wins during conference play.

Supporting the veteran presence are several intriguing freshmen, including Californians Ryan Chesser from Dana Hills HS, Nathan Ling from Rancho Bernardo HS, and Grant Belcher.

Notable Departures

The transition to a younger roster is necessitated by the departure of several program legends. Adam Paniagua leaves a massive void behind the plate; the former RMAC Player of the Year and D2 Baseball First Team All-American was a statistical titan, hitting .448 with 27 home runs and a staggering 100 RBI, leading the conference in both power categories. Also moving on is shortstop Clayton Conn, a First Team All-RMAC selection who hit .322 and led the conference with 28 stolen bases. On the mound, the Rangers lose Noah McCandless, a First Team All-RMAC reliever who recorded 7 saves and a 3.58 ERA, Aidan Brainard (transfer to D1 Nevada), who pitched to a .236 batting average against and Garrett Rede, a Second Team All-RMAC outfielder who hit .385 before transferring to D1 New Mexico.

2026 Schedule & Outlook

The 2026 campaign begins with a challenging road trip to La Mirada, Calif., for a four-game series against Biola University starting on January 30. Biola is a formidable opponent coming off a 26-27 season and a PacWest Tournament appearance. Following the California trip, Regis engages in an early home-and-home split with Colorado School of Mines in February. The Rangers will then face a true test of endurance in mid-February when they travel to meet Montana State University Billings, a 33-win team that reached the West Regional last year.

The heart of the conference schedule features a heavy dose of MSU Denver and Colorado State University Pueblo, both of whom were RMAC Tournament participants last season. April will be a critical month as Regis hosts Colorado School of Mines for a full four-game set before heading to Grand Junction to face the reigning RMAC Champions, Colorado Mesa, who posted a dominant 42-14 record in 2025.

The regular season concludes at home against Adams State in early May, as the Rangers aim to secure their spot in the RMAC Tournament once again. While the roster is young and lacks the seasoned experience of years past, the "solid brand of baseball" Jolley expects could make them a dangerous team by the time May rolls around.
